Tips for Transitioning Your Baby Into Child Care

What Will You Do With Your Child When You Go Back To Work?

by Gene Jimenez

When you had your first baby, you likely already knew that the time would come when you would go back into the workforce. Maybe you need a second income to make daily life easier. Or, it might be that you truly love your profession and you don't want to give it up just yet. Now that you're going back to work, you probably have one central question in mind: what will you do with your child who isn't ready for real school yet?

Maybe you've already come up with a solution on where your child will be while you're away from them. If so, that must be a huge relief. On the other hand, perhaps you're still in the planning stages. From hiring a nanny to arranging for year-round preschool for your child, here are some ideas that might help.

Hire a Nanny to Watch Your Child

At first, you might have considered asking a close friend or a family member to watch your child. Maybe that just didn't work out for you. Or, it might be that you didn't feel comfortable asking for help. No matter the scenario, have you thought of hiring a nanny? The great part about having a nanny to watch your child means that your child can stay right at home where they feel comfortable.

If you do hire a nanny, be sure to cover all of your bases before you make any final decisions. For example, does the nanny have reliable transportation? You don't want to be left in the lurch if all of a sudden the nanny doesn't have a ride to your house, right? Is the nanny willing to also do light housework?

Arrange for Year-Round Preschool

Maybe you've been thinking that placing your child in a year-round preschool would be your best bet. You'd never have to worry about a caregiver not showing up at your house at the right time, would you? Having your child in a preschool setting would also mean that he or she could play with other children. Your child would be totally safe, too. You could have the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your son or daughter would be cared for by individuals who have the training and the experience to make your child happy while you're away.

If this sounds interesting to you, you should visit local year-round preschools to compare your options.
